I’ve been around for a long time and I’ve hear the complaints about the NHL all star game, and how the game is boring, and how there is no interest and the event needs to be changed. I’ll be honest and say I haven’t been following it as much as I probably should have in recent years.
But this year, my hockey crazy kid fell in love with the All Star Game. He thought it was hilarious, and funny and watched with bated breath the skills competition. He knows all the leading goal scorers, voted for his all time favorits in the fan balloting, made us register and sign up for every on-site and NHL All-Star related promotio.
One potentially negative (or positive depending on your perspective – mine is as a parent) outcome was that he was not only glued to the game and the all star programming, he loved all of the commercials – without any prompting from me or his father, he provided us with comentary on every commercial, good, silly, confusing, whatever. And I’m not excacly sure that all of the ads were targeted to his age level (under 10 crowd). But he loved it.
And you know what, because he loved it, so did I. I actually learned a thing or two along the way.
So, maybe there is hope for the future – NHL fans of the all-star game unite!
